The day started with me getting on the Tram to my new school, Simonds Catholic College. This will be my transport to and fro school next year. It took me about 30min to get there and when I got there I was greted by my new School Principle and said goodbye to my Dad. I quickly got to the meeting room where most of next year’s year 7 where seated. We had a quick briefing on our expectations and what next year’s going to be like.
After that the group was split up into our home groups for next year and found out my teacher. My teacher was Miss Fisher, she is a good teacher. Next the class was given with questions to ask fellow classmates. It was to find out more about each other. I didn’t do to good but someone else managed to fill it out.
Next I Recess where it was provided. We got to have Jam Doughnuts which was very tasty. After Recess I maths with Miss ?(I forgot her name). We talked about time tables and talked about bit of homework to do over the holidays. We also did a quick 42 question times table sheet. We had 60 seconds to do it and I answered about 20 of them in that time.
The next session was Science with our home room teacher. I did a sheet in what we new about science. I did very well because of what I learnt this year. Next the class did an experiment on if Coke or Diet Coke would float on water. The Diet Coke sort of floated because it weighed 1.1 g/cm3. For something to float on water it has to weigh 1 g/cm3 or less. We got to make paper aeroplanes and test them on how far they flew. Mine was a bit of a fail.
Next I had lunch of Hot Dog and Soft Drink. It was very good and satisfied me. I played Downball with some people. I started to get to know two people called Max and Rupen. By the end of Lunch I got to know some people better. This was a very Lunch Time.
Next I did drama with Ms ? (I can’t remember her name either). We played many fun games that where interesting. One of those games I played was by trying to roll a tennis ball through each other legs. You could try to stop it. Anther game I played was where you would act like something and then the teacher would call out a number and you would have to get into a group of that number.
For the last session I had P.E with Mr Veal our Year 7 coordinator. We did best to 3 trying to stand on each others toes. We played Number Soccer and Dodgeball. I did OK in these but I did worse in soccer. Orientation Day ended in me drawing in a shield to tell something about me. When the bell went, I went home on the tram and that was it.
Predict: I predict that this is going to be about seeing how many jelly beans are in the box of jelly beans.
Read: http://www.problempictures.co.uk/examples/op10.htm get it here and read!!
Big Question: How many jelly beans are in the box.
Mathematicians Toolbox: Draw a diagram or Graph.
Solve: First we did 3×12 and that equals 36 and then doubled it which is 72 and then tripled it and that’s 216 and there are 36 flavours because there 36 compartments of different flavours. And the simular box is and 4×10 box.
Summary: Today using the strategy that we used was really helpful and it really help us solve the problem and finish it.

As I opened the front door in celebration I saw something red and awfully strange in the tree. I became slightly nervous in thinking it might be something bad. But as it flew away I found out was a bird. Suddenly my brother came rushing put the door making me go tumbling face first into the snow. I laughed as I got up and started chasing him around, picking him up and tickling him. Laughing his head he said, “lets go inside Santa’s come”. We went inside and found many presents all neatly raped up. What a Christmas it was.
Predict: I predict that this is going to be about trial and error.
Read: The sum of 4 consecutive whole numbers is 94. What are the 4 numbers?
Big Question: What are the 4 consecutive numbers?
Mathematicians Toolbox: ?_
Predict: I predict this is going to be about moving weights to make the weights evenly distributed on the scales.
Read: Which two weight need to be swapped to balance the scales?
Big Question: Which two weights need to be swapped?
Mathematicians Toolbox: Make a List or Table and Write a Sum or Number Sentence.
Solve: First I added up the weight together on each side and got 16 and 12. Then I found the median between them, 14 and I figured out which weights needed to be move. 7 because no weight could be moved to make 14 and 9 because added to 5 it would equal 14.
Summary: The two strategies I used where very effective in getting the problem solved. It wasn’t to hard but still made me think.
Predict: I predict this is going to be about money, scissors and erasers.
Read: Four erasers cost as much as two pairs of scissors. How much is one pair of scissors, if one eraser is $1.50?
Big Question: How much is is pair of scissors?
Mathematicians Toolbox: Write a Sum or Number Sentence.
Solve: First I decided that it has to be an addition problem. Next I times 4 by 1.5 and that equalled 6, then I divided 6 by 2 and got 3 and that is the answer.
Summary: This question was pretty easy and that method I used helped alot.
Today I watched an article on a boy called Sam and his wonderful magic tricks. Some interesting facts are, Sam is only 12 and he already knows so many magic tricks that it would blow your mind. His manager is his Mum and he doesn’t have to pay her. He’s so good that talent agencies want to sing him up, but his Mum won’t let them because he’s 12 years old.
Some understandings I now have are, if you try hard enough and you get into something quickly, you can aspire to be person you wanted to be. I also understand why all Sam Idols are magicians, this is because they do the same thing he does that he loves so much. A question I still have is, How many magic tricks does Sam know?

I was sitting on the beach that our ship was shipwrecked on and pondered to myself why I went on that ship in the first place. I knew the answer straight away, I wanted a better life in a new country. The country I was bound for was Iceland. Our family thought it would be a good place to settle. The name wasn’t nice but life was said to be good there. We took a ship from Denmark before the country collapsed into total mayhem. We where in a storm soon after departure and suddenly we where on an mysterious Island.
